We got married at Serendipity Garden Weddings in 2018, and it was the best day of our lives. Years later, we still feel it every time we drive up Oak Glen Road and the air turns cool and the hills open up. It is the place our own marriage began, and it has become one of the places we are most at home as photographers.
We now photograph weddings at Serendipity so often that the staff know us by name. They have told us they are relieved when they see our name listed as the photo and video team for the day. We have photographed six weddings there in 2026 alone and dozens over the last 8 years. This guide is everything we have learned, written for the couple who has just toured the property, fallen for it, and wants to know how to plan a day that photographs as beautifully as it feels.
1. Why Couples Choose Serendipity
Serendipity sits at about 4,200 feet in Oak Glen, in the hills above Yucaipa. The setting is the first thing guests notice: wide views toward Mt. San Gorgonio, gardens full of roses, a pond with a waterfall, and old oaks that give the whole property a sense of shade and quiet. It often runs 10 to 15 degrees cooler than Orange County, which matters more than most couples expect on a summer afternoon.
The property also gives you options. There are terraces with incredible views for cocktail hour or evening receptions, and a barn that works as a beautiful reception space or as a backup when the weather turns. For photography, that variety means your gallery can move from bright garden scenes to warm, candlelit interiors without ever leaving the venue.
2. A Staff That Has the Day Ironed Out
We cannot write about Serendipity without writing about the people who run it. The staff are extremely helpful, accommodating and experienced, and it shows in every part of the day. They have a dedicated bridal assistant and groom assistant who look after each side of the wedding party, so you are never left wondering where to be or what comes next.
The team stays in constant communication on walkie-talkies, which means the ceremony start, the grand entrance and the cake cutting all happen when they should. Golf carts carry the bride and older guests across the property, so a long gown or a grandparent's mobility never limits where we can take portraits or where family can be. Water stations are set throughout the grounds, and the barn is ready if the weather takes a turn for the worse.
From our side of the camera, this is what makes Serendipity special. When the venue has the day this well planned, we can give our full attention to you, your people, and the moments that matter, instead of chasing the timeline. The day simply flows.
3. Ceremony Sites
The ceremony site looks out over the hills with open sky behind you. It gives us bright, airy images and a real sense of place: guests looking back at your photos will know exactly where they were. Because the site is so open, the ceremony time matters. A ceremony timed for softer late-day light is easier on everyone’s eyes, on skin tones, and on the photos. We’ll walk you through how it will look at your time of day.
4. Our Favorite Portrait Spots
The rose arch. This is the spot most couples ask about, and for good reason. Framed by roses, it makes for classic, timeless portraits, and it is just as lovely for a quiet moment between the two of you as it is for the full wedding party.
The pond and waterfall. Water adds movement and reflection, and the greenery around the pond gives us layers of depth and scale. We love it for relaxed, unhurried portraits after the ceremony or first look.
Golden hour across the street. A one-minute golf cart ride from the reception takes us across the street to our favorite spot for sunset portraits. One side of the cliffs show the Oak Glen mountains fading into layers of blue. On the other, golden light glows as you look out toward the skyline. We only need a few minutes away from the reception, and the portraits from this spot are often the ones couples frame first.
The reception terrace after dark. The reception terrace sits at the top of the venue, looking out over the canyon and the skyline, so your guests have the view all through dinner. When the sun goes down and the string lights come on, the whole terrace glows. It’s one of our favorite places for night portraits. Once it’s fully dark, the fireplace and the barn’s warm wood give us a few more intimate spots.
5. Light, Timeline and Travel
Because the property sits among hills and trees, the sun disappears behind the ridge earlier than the official sunset time. We check the exact sun path for your date with a sun-tracking app and build the timeline around it, so your portraits land in the best light rather than in shade or harsh midday sun.
Serendipity has a bridal suite and a cottage on site, so getting ready, the first look and the ceremony all happen within a short walk of each other. No travel time, no shuttling the wedding party between locations, just more of your day spent actually enjoying it. If you’re doing a first look, we have plenty of quiet corners on the property for it, away from guests arriving.
From most of Orange County, plan on about an hour and a half of driving. In the fall, Oak Glen's apple season brings heavy weekend traffic on Oak Glen Road, so we recommend building extra time into your schedule and letting guests know to leave early.
6. Photo and Video, One Team
We cover both photography and video, and we work as one cohesive team. Our photo and video are color matched, so your gallery and your wedding video feel like they belong to the same day. It also means fewer people to coordinate and one team that already knows Serendipity's staff, spaces and rhythm.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where is Serendipity Garden Weddings?
Serendipity Garden Weddings is at 12865 Oak Glen Road in Oak Glen, California, in the hills above Yucaipa.
Have you photographed weddings at Serendipity before?
Many times. We were married there ourselves in 2018, and we photograph weddings there every year, including six in 2026. The staff know us well, which makes the day smoother for everyone.
What is the best season for a Serendipity wedding?
Every season has something to offer. Spring brings the roses into full bloom, summer is safe from rain and 10º cooler than down the mountain, and fall brings warm light and apple season in Oak Glen. Winter can be crisp and snowy, and the barn is there if the weather turns.
Do you offer both photo and video?
Yes. Our photo and video are color matched and planned together, so the whole day feels consistent across your gallery and your video.
How far is Serendipity from Orange County?
About an hour and a half from most of Orange County, longer on fall weekends when apple season traffic builds on Oak Glen Road.
